Aerospace Standards Testing

The aerospace industry makes unprecedented advances every year. As science and engineering continue to evolve and provide more powerful and efficient ways to explore the skies and space around our world, aerospace manufacturers must conform to safety and quality standards. Reliable aerospace product testing ensures safety, quality and efficiency in the most extreme conditions.

At VTEC Laboratories, we are leaders in aerospace testing standards, providing product testing for the aviation and aerospace industry. We can testing components and materials from all parts of the craft in our aerospace testing labs. We deliver results above and beyond what's requested to meet the growing demands of your organization. Ensure your products comply with all required aerospace testing standards and customer expectations with comprehensive, quality aerospace testing.

The Importance of Aerospace Standards Testing

Aerospace standards cover many different variables in the industry and come from several sources, including Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), ASTM International and Boeing. These regulations ensure the highest level of safety and efficiency for those who work within aerospace organizations and the customers they serve.

Aerospace standards testing ensures companies from around the world can test their products and evaluate their mechanical, thermal, electrical, optical and chemical properties. All components and devices must be tested to determine their performance and safety operations.

Complying with aerospace standards and using testing as part of your quality management process provides aerospace manufacturers and suppliers many benefits, including risk management, streamlined production processes, and improved reputation.

Aerospace Testing Standards Offered at VTEC

VTEC works with organizations within the aviation and aerospace industry to ensure safe and reliable products that meet or exceed regulatory authority requirements. The following are the testing procedures and standards commonly used for the aerospace industry.

ASTM F814

ASTM F814 is a smoke density test that determines the specific optical density of smoke generated by solid aerospace materials and components. Determining the smoke generating characteristics of materials during combustion ensures that smoke does not exceed a maximum smoke optical density value.

BMS 1348

Approved by the Boeing company, the BMS 1348 specification ensures insulated wire and cable can withstand extreme temperatures and various corrosive fluids.

BSS 7239

The Boeing Safety Standard (BSS) 7239 tests the generation of toxic gases when specific materials burn or ignite. Upon combustion, materials can release hazardous gases. Testing determines which toxic gases and how much are released by burning a sample in a controlled setting.

BSS 7238

BSS 7238 is a fire test for smoke density used on aircraft material. By testing the specific optical density of smoke generated by solid materials, we ensure any smoke created falls below a maximum smoke optical density value.

FAA/FAR 25.855

FAA/FAR 25.855 is the Cargo Compartment Classification Requirements. Testing ensures cargo or baggage will not interfere with the functioning of an aircraft compartment's fire protection features, including shielding cargo or baggage from sources of heat.

FAA/FAR 25.853

FAA/FAR 25.853 is the Flammability Requirements for Aircraft Seat Cushions. Flammability testing ensures products meet these specifications. If the manufacturer departs from the specifications, temperature and heat flux measurements and burn length criteria must meet FAA specifications.
